I'M A LEFTY, AND I CAN DO CALLIGRAPHY.

Hello, everyone! Especially to my beloved GP Calligraphers family! :) For those of you who doesn’t know me, I’m Algel, 22, curriculum officer slash teacher by day, book blogger slash artist by night. Let me tell you the story behind why I ventured into the art of calligraphy. (This is going to be short, promise!)

I already told you that I’m a book blogger so it’s obvious that I love reading books, YA books to be specific. I love Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, Tahereh Mafi, Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, John Green, and many other writers out there. But the author I love the most is Jodi Meadows, author of the Newsoul trilogy and The Orphan Queen duology. Almost one and a half year ago, Jodi started posting postcards on her IG account (@unicornwarlord) written using pointed pen and ink. I got curious and interested so I waited for more posts from her and eventually I started researching about it. That was also the time when I enrolled in a Lettering and Typography workshop by Works Of Heart PH where I met one of La Bella Scrittura’s bellas, ate Katia Naval (@thedesignhobbyist). I talked to her about how I really wanted to learn about modern calligraphy and she told me to watch out for their future workshops. I also bought my first calligraphy tools from their website, https://labellascrittura.checkout.ph/.

Unfortunately, I’ve never been to any of LBS workshops because I’m not yet financially stable back then (LOL) so I thought why not learn the art all by myself? I’m pretty sure there are lots of Youtube videos and tutorials out there that can help me learn the craft. But one thing made it quite hard for me to learn it -- I’m left-handed and there isn’t much videos out there for lefties like me. I almost lost hope but I didn’t give up and stumbled upon ate Aileen’s IG account (@theleftieadvantage) and hey, she’s a leftie! I looked up on her photos and saw her progress. She was my inspiration back then. Along the way, I met a lot of left-handed calligraphers that gave me inspiration, and I hope to inspire other lefties like me as well.

See you in my future posts! :)
